thinking back part 4: dance songs you never hear
Even tho I play various types of music and genres, I’m a hip hop head 1st. When growing up in middle and high school, before rap took over the nations airwaves, I listened to a show called “the rap down” it started on WGCI on Saturday night for 1 hour I think. Then went to 2 hours, then went to Friday and Saturday for two hours.
So at its height, u heard hip hop on mainstream radio 4 hours a week. Chicago had another station that played hip hop called WHPK. However the signal was so weak in Indiana, I had one friend that used foil, tape, and a hanger to connect his antennae to his metal window frame. Any way, back to the rap down.. the hosts were ramonski luv, supa producer Frankie j, and disco dave (RIP).
I’d grab a cassette and tape these shows damn near every week. Well number 4 in my thinking back series. Pays tribute to some of those rapdown era songs. And not only did we dance…dammit, we danced HARD.
Enjoy:

I love this mix. You are awesome! You always bring out songs I have totally forgotten about. Good Job!
Nice mix. Thanks for the flashback.
You took it back talkin about findin' radio stations... I remember summers spent in tennesse in the 80's and the only good station we could pick up was WWKU outta Bowling Green and they had a hip hop show... that was like the only day of the week we'd get to hear Cool C or MC Lyte's newest... good mix too
